Corporate Social Responsibility
Our approach to good Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is through focusing on health and education. This is where our synergies are and the reason why we can make a difference in our workplace with our clients and in the communities around us. We aspire to undertake at least two events in each half of the year.
As part of activities marking the inauguration of the centre on 13 February 2012; the centre held free medical screening for the local community on Valentine’s Day 14 February 2012 under the theme “KEEP A HEALTHY HEART FOR YOUR VALENTINE”. We saw close to 200 patients and picked up 45 chronic cases of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and 1 case of old CVA with recurrent TIA’s. In the second half of the year, we continued our CSR with a medical screening for Agape House New Testament Church in East Legon, Accra on the 18 August 2012 as part of their 5th anniversary celebrations.
We saw over 100 patients and picked up 20 cases of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
It was business as usual in 2013. We undertook two free community service and outreach programmes. We were back at Agape House New Testament Church giving a talk on “PREVENTING DISEASES WITH SCREENING & TESTING” at the Women’s Fellowship meeting.
For the second half of the year, we undertook a health promotion event under the theme “THE ESSENTIALS OF LEADING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE” at Stanbic Bank, our newest corporate client. We saw close to 300 patients and picked up about 60 chronic cases of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
In 2014, we undertook a community public health advisory “Q&A Event” in August at the High Commission of Canada, for their frontline staff - Security Team, Cleaners, Cooks and Domestic Staff on the “A-Z of Ebola and Cholera”. We have scheduled a community event with Allied Oil Company for Q4 of this year.
We have developed about 50 patient/client relationships from these programmes, who are now being seen periodically by Accra Medical Centre. On the back of the success of these, we have decided to host four community programmes in 2015; we are estimating one programme each quarter. Pfizer Specialties Ghana Limited, who provided product and personnel support in 2012 & 2013, has committed to partnering us in the future.
We extended our health promotion event under the theme “THE ESSENTIALS OF LEADING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE” to Allied Oil Company Limited and Prime Insurance Company Limited in the first quarter of 2015 on 11 February 2015 and 13 February 2015 respectively as part of our third anniversary celebrations. With Pfizer Specialties Ghana Limited as partners, we saw about a 100 patients emphasizing the need for healthier lifestyle choices in food (calorie intake) and by regular excising.
Our CSR target for the year is undertaking two activities in each quarter.
